The claim that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was the "Hind di Chadar" (shield of Hinduism) is a misinterpretation that undermines the universal and profound nature of his sacrifice. Guru Sahib stood for the freedom of conscience, the right to practice one's faith, and the protection of truth and justice, not just for one group but for all humanity. The actual wording is It is written by one of the 52 poets of Guru Gobind Singh.
This misunderstanding is often perpetuated by those who seek to box Sikhi into a role that aligns with their own agenda. The RSS and similar groups attempt to portray Sikhs as a warrior sect of Hinduism created to protect Hindu interests. This is not only historically inaccurate but also a blatant attempt to erase the unique and sovereign identity of Sikhi.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's martyrdom was a defense of universal human rights, standing against the tyranny of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, who sought to force religious conversions. Guru Sahib's actions were not limited to defending Hindus; they were a stand for the principles of equality and justice for all, values that transcend any single religion.
Let us remember and educate others about the true essence of Guru Sahib's sacrifice:
1️⃣ He stood for religious freedom. His sacrifice was for the oppressed, regardless of their faith.
2️⃣ Sikhi is distinct. It is a faith rooted in equality, selflessness, and justice.
3️⃣ Reject the false narratives. Do not fall prey to misinformation that reduces Sikhs to a "protector" role for any one group.
We must remain vigilant against these attempts to distort our history. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom is a beacon for all of humanity, not a chapter to be rewritten for political gains.
Let’s honor his legacy by sharing the truth. Sikhs are sovereign, and their history is universal.
